The next day is usually enough time for the thin set to dry. Now comes the finishing stage. The grout selection is now mixed and applied with a flat rubber trowel. Since some grouts are very fine, we only mix it in batches to keep it fresh. The grout is applied to all the joints between the tiles. The material must be packed into these joints to seal out moisture. Once all the grout is applied, we must wipe away all the excess and define the lines using a web sponge. Wiping away the extra grout keeps it from drying on the tile surface. After a few wipes, the helper has to wring out the sponge and begin wiping away more very quickly. No grout should dry on the tile.
